The Yotes tend to be spoilers, they can even upset good teams this year. Chychrun is out there trying to get traded, and many others as well, and collectively they have a chip on their shoulders. So they can surprise you, or they do what is expected of a bad team.
Copp is quietly getting out of his funk. I hope he continues on this trend, but he still is lacking the success of last year. Bert is not as visible as last year, but did manage 2 assists.....and that late game tripping call on him was atrocious, where the Yote fell a stride and a half later... Hosso is very good, but the defense needs to step up and limit the high danger chances. Gonna be a real test for them on Monday against one of the best offences in the league! It was nice to see Captain Larkin doing the hero thing by winning the game in the SO!

All the people saying that Larkin was not a legit #1 center are eating crow... He's proven a lot of people wrong. He's a better two-way player now and still racking up important points. Seems like Copp is slowly starting to contribute more... Wings really need him to take the next step to be the legit #2 center they need.

The third pairing defense of Walman and Oesterle is a big improvement. Seems to be working pretty well. Hronek is still on fire. I'm curious to see how long he can keep this offensive streak going. The Wings defensemen are finally helping out the offense and getting some badly needed goals / assists. We haven't seen that in years.

Toronto on Monday will be a real test of this team's defense. Read LaLonde says that Soderblom is still 2 or 3 weeks away. Not a problem.. because Berggren is making a serious case to stay in Detroit. Heck... even our 4th line isn't too bad anymore with Suter and Berggren on it. I like that Berggren can play anywhere in the lineup and not look out of place... he's got the skillset.

I still just marvel that, 20 games into his 4th season, Yzerman has changed so much. Perron has had such a positive impact on the power play and on O zone possession and creativity. And so many times when you’re sure the puck is going to get out of the attacking zone, a D man gets to it. Not that long ago they just watched as it went all the way down the ice. Much more competitive. However, the big boys are lining up. Toronto, 2 teams in Florida and Boston. I’m hoping the team makes a respectful showing within the division as the year gets to the “dog days”. The middle 40 can be brutal mentally and physically

The 'Yotes are going to be a thorn in other team's SCPO sides. I was really impressed with their play last night and through the season so far. Ghost looked good, Chychrun (sp?) was so effective. I feel for how they've been mis-managed.

I'll eat crow, for now, regarding Hronek. Last year I said he should be traded. He's en fuego. The D has been a revelation. Looks like Mo has taken steps to be a better defender at a bit of a sacrifice of his O game, and that's a good thing. I'm amazed at the change in the D-line this year. Walman's got the tools to be a dang good asset; his shot is awesome and his vision is incredible. We just need a solid compliment to him, heard Pysyk's out for the season. Who else could slot in? Still wondering what's going on with the Hellberg signing... he has to clear to go to GR, and I believe he has to stay on the roster for 30 days after a claim, would to see him get some game time.

I'm not putting any stock in the Thanksgiving record...the grind, like Jeremy said, is the middle 40, and the heavy hitters are in front of us. Monday should be a good test of what we have. Great game last night, though. Larkin's a beast, and I'm wondering why he's yet to be extended. Bert's game is off since his return but he still needs to evolve into his rythym. Bear-grin's here to stay, Tickle the Twine Elmer will go to GR, he needs it.

This team has a TON of potential, and I'm lovin' what we're seeing!!!!

When the Red Wings claimed Magnus Hellberg off waivers from Seattle earlier this week, the move raised some eyebrows considering that both Ville Husso and Alex Nedeljkovic are healthy. Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press indicates that GM Steve Yzerman’s idea for the claim was to simply give them some insurance knowing that their schedule starts to get a bit more compressed in the coming weeks (they have 28 games over the next two months even with the holiday break). If something happens, they’re more comfortable with Hellberg over pulling someone up from AHL Grand Rapids. While Hellberg will get to stick on an NHL roster for a little longer now, it appears as if he’ll still be waiting a while to have a shot at making his second appearance of the season.

Red Wings Sign Alex Chiasson to AHL Grand Rapids. They announced that they’ve signed the 32-year-old to a PTO agreement. Not a bad pick-up!

Interesting move... wondering if there's a plan to move someone on the DRW roster which would precipitate a "call-up"? Chiasson & Hellberg......for GR??

Also, seeing several rumors about Horvat being available, for the right price. 6', 215lbs, scoring Centerman. Could The Captain make a move to bring in Bo? Is Ned part of the package? Lil Bert? Suter?

Horvat would be great for the Wings! However, the cost would be too high! Up to 4 very good pieces going back! At least a very good young player, a 1st, and a very good prospect. Horvat is also on the cusp of being too old for a 7-8yr contract that it would take to keep him. He should have 3-4 very good years in him, is that enough to get the Wings to the SCF?

Yeah, safe to say the asking price would be way high. I'd hate to see what names we'd have to give up. And you bring up a valid point: "...is that enough to get the Wings to tge SCF?" Key here would be FINALS. I'd say we're a few years away from the SCF.

Good call!

Hellberg is in case either Husso or Ned go down to injury. He's a step above either goalie in GR. I'm pretty sure Chiasson is also injury insurance since Luff is now out for the season. Hellberg would have to clear waivers if he's sent down to GR... and he'd most likely get claimed. I'd say let him and Ned fight for the backup job in Detroit. Ned continues to be inconsistent... he needs to find his game.

Didn’t know Luff was gone! Chiasson makes sense, in that light. Hellberg’s interesting, he’s looked ok in his several starts with the other 15-16 teams he’s been with this week 😁. Seriously, he needs a look and Ned needs a kick in the butt, so I’m ok with the move…just wonder if something else is afoot. You’re probably right, though. Wholly agree with him n Ned duking it out between the pipes, as long as the wins keep coming!!

Would like to see a win tonight, but expect a 1 or 2 goal loss (fingers crossed!). Leaf’s D is decimated, so who knows. We’ve got more weapons than last year, but the true test is the next month or so….
